Curiosity
Zilianium is a fancy name that pays homage to our municipality. The first historical notes of the town in fact date back to the High Middle Ages were a testamentary document of 1029, preserved in the Bishop’s library of Bobbio,in which the Deacon Gherardo undertook to leave the Castrum de Zilanium to the Marquis Ugo.Ziano and its hamlets were strategic cornerstones of great importance as battle theaters between the Piacenza militias and the Ghibelline militias of Pavia. The area was called Ziano in 1888 and Ziano Piacentino in 1928. Starting from the second post-war period the whole territory of Ziano gave great impetus to viticulture, first with the production of simple table grapes and later with must grapes so much so that in 1967 the territory was included in the production area of DOC products.
